Do you snack after dinner?

What you snack on can help you or it can hurt you.

Frequently people will ask me if “Is it okay to snack after dinner?” There are many who believe that it’s NOT good to snack after dinner because it will just turn to fat. This rule can not be imposed on everyone. Everyone’s body has different caloric requirements and activity levels. If you have already consumed your daily caloric intake by dinner time, then no you don’t need to snack at night. If you have not met your daily caloric needs after you have had dinner, then you can definitely have a snack.

Snacks are meant to be around 100 – 200 calories and should include protein, healthy fat and carbohydrates. If your snack has all 3 nutritional components, you will stay fuller longer till it is meal time.

Here are some night time snack ideas –

 3 cups of popcorn with a low-fat cheese-stick
1/2 peanut butter sandwich
1/2 cup cottage cheese and handful of berries
oatmeal with 1 tbsp nuts
cut up vegetables with hummus
1/2 cup fruit with a low-fat cheese-stick
