7 Tips to Help You Succeed with Your New Years Resolutions!

1. Write down what is motivating you to eat healthier, lose weight, and exercise. Put this list where you can see it everyday.

Examples – prevent disease, to play with your children, to get off medication, etc..

2. Choose an attainable goal.

Example – lose 10 lbs, start working out 3 days/week for 30 min

3. Create a vision board.

You can put your short term and long term goals on it. Put pictures up that go along with those goals.

Example – Short term goal: lose 10 lbs – reward: manicure, a new book, go to a movie, massage, etc., Long term goal: lose 50 lbs – reward: new clothes, trip/vacation, etc…

4. Set your priorities in your calendar.

Make appointments in your calendar to go grocery shopping, to exercise, to prep meals, and to rest

Example – Saturday: grocery shop for the week, Sunday: prep food for the week

5. Make willpower work for you!

Tempted to give up? Don’t. Your beliefs about willpower determine how long and how well you’re able to work on a tough exercise.

Example – Put positive quotes around your house, office, and car.

“What you do today can improve all your tomorrows.”

6. Tell family and friends what your goals are and ask them for help.

Example – Work out partner, choose a healthier restaurant to meet for lunch/dinner, or not to purchase tempting snacks

7. Go easy on yourself when you don’t eat as healthy as you would like or you don’t get to exercise.

Life happens and things don’t always go according to our plans. The main thing is to get back up, brush yourself off and get back on track. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t strive for perfection because that is not attainable. Strive for 80% eating healthy and exercising during the week and 20% having fun and enjoying what you eat and relaxing.
