Why you need to make “Mason Jar Salads”
Why you need to make “Mason Jar Salads”.
Developing a healthy lifestyle involves meal planning and meal prepping. This means that we make healthy food choices in advance to help us develop healthy habits. Many people don’t buy a lot of fruits and vegetables when they shop because they are afraid it will go bad before they get to eat it.
“Mason Jar Salads” are one way you can purchase your fruits and vegetables and not worry about them going bad if they are in your refrigerator for a few days. When they are assembled properly, your fruits and vegetables will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 5-6 days. They are also easy to make and transport. So no more throwing away those moldy vegetables at the bottom of your refrigerator. Just think of the money you will save!!
You can find these jars at your local Walmart, Target, Amazon or grocery store. They even come in a couple of different colors. Think about buying a box of 12 and sharing them with a friend. You both can prep and make your salads together on a Sunday afternoon for the upcoming work week.
As we know, it is recommended that we get at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables during the day. This is a great way to help you reach that goal. Don’t forget when you pack your lunch, you are saving money because you are not going through the drive thru on your lunch break.
The health benefits of eating “Mason Jar Salads” include: lots of vitamins and minerals, correct portion sizes, lower sodium, and lower fat. This in turn will help lower blood sugars, decrease your cholesterol, decrease blood pressure, and help with weight loss. An added benefit is that you will know everything that is in your salad and not have to worry that there might be anything you are allergic or sensitive to.
